Medical Adoption

Dr. William O'Shaughnessy introduces cannabis to Western medicine after studying it in India. Cannabis tinctures become widely available in pharmacies.

1937Prohibition

Marijuana Tax Act

The US passes the Marijuana Tax Act, effectively criminalizing cannabis. Harry Anslinger's campaign links cannabis to crime and racial minorities.

1964Science

THC Discovered

Israeli chemist Raphael Mechoulam isolates and synthesizes THC for the first time, opening the door to understanding how cannabis works.

Controlled Substances Act
